General Information

WHERE TO USE PRESSURE TREATED WOOD:
  • Pressure-treated wood is effective against termites and fungal decay, both above-ground and in-ground.  It is ideal for many residential and commercial applications such as:
  • Decks
  • Fences
  • Walkways
  • Retaining Walls
  • Picnic Tables
  • Planter Boxes
  • Benches
  • Gazebos

APPROPRIATE RETENTION LEVELS OF PRESERVATIVE:

  • 0.08 pcf - Decking and Specialties
  • 0.10 pcf - Above Ground
  • 0.21 pcf - Ground/Fresh Water Contact
  • 0.31 pcf - Structural Sawn Poles & Posts

BUILDING TIPS:

  • If the wood is wet and heavy, butt deck boards together as some shrinkage will occur; if wood is dry and light, separate boards slightly (max. 1/8") to allow for future swelling.
  • For 2" lumber, use 12d nails or 3" screws.
  • For 5/4" decking, use 10d nails or 2 1/2" screws.
  • Screws take longer to drive than nails, but hold boards securely and will allow for easier removal if necessary.

RECOMMENDED HARDWARE:

  • For Normal Outdoor Use:  Hot-dipped galvanized fasteners (meeting ASTM A 153) and connectors (ASTM A 653 Class G185 sheet), or better, are recommended for protection against the effects of moisture often present where treated wood is used.
  • For Extreme Conditions: For Permanent Wood Foundations, or where saltwater spray is present, use 304 or 316 stainless steel.
  • For Dry, Protected Use: Galvanized fasteners are preferable, but the use of non-galvanized nails of sizes and types approved by the Model Code is acceptable when attaching joists, studs, or other framing to Wolmanized sill plate, provided the wood will remain dry in service and protected from weather and water.
  • Other exterior coated fasteners may be suitable.  See manufacturer's specifications.
  • Aluminum should not be used in direct contact with this wood.  To do so would require an adequate physical barrier between the metal and wood.

HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Do not burn pressure-treated wood.
  • Wear a dust masks, goggles and gloves when cutting or handling treated or untreated wood.
  • After working with wood, wash exposed areas thoroughly.
  • Wash work clothes separately from other household clothing before reuse.
  • Pressure treated wood should not be used where it may come into direct or indirect contact with drinking water, except for uses involving incidental contact such as fresh water docks and bridges.
  • Do not use pressure treated wood in circumstances where the preservative may become a component of food, animal feed, or beehives.
  • Do not use pressure treated wood for mulch.

WARRANTY:

  • Genuine Womanized Residential Outdoor wood products are backed by a lifetime limited warranty.
